About the imprint Almost Supper Time

Savoring Wonder.

Stories shaped by imagination, courage, and discovery

Almost Supper Time is that moment when dinner is nearly ready.

The scent of a meal slowly simmering drifts through the house. A pot lid lifts with a soft clink. Your mouth starts to water. Your stomach gives a quiet growl. Something warm and lovingly prepared is on its way. It’s a moment filled with anticipation and comfort, shaped by patience and love.

That feeling is where Almost Supper Time began.

We create stories meant to be savored. Stories prepared with intention and offered generously. Some are read alone, curled up in a quiet corner. Others are shared aloud, passed back and forth, or returned to again and again. However they’re read, our books are meant to satisfy in the moment and linger afterward, like a good meal.

Our stories invite children and adults alike into imaginative worlds where courage is tested, choices matter, and hope has weight. The challenges the people in the story face are real, and so is their growth. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is handed to them. The journey matters.

Running gently beneath each story is a quiet undercurrent, easily missed if you rush, but hard to forget once you notice it. Love carries weight. Sacrifice means something. Along the way, readers may catch glimpses of themselves in the story, noticing what matters as the people in the story face challenges that feel real. Nothing is explained or taught. These truths belong to the world of the story, ready to be discovered and carried beyond it in their own time.

Almost Supper Time exists for that shared space between wonder and meaning. For stories that nourish the imagination and the heart. Stories made with care. Stories meant to be enjoyed together. Stories worth remembering, long after the last page is turned.

Storyteller. Designer. Listener.

Meet the Author

Michael Kulwiec believes stories have a way of carrying meaning and purpose, especially when they invite the imagination to lead.

Storytelling has been at the center of his work for years. Through his creative studio, Michael Kulwiec DesignLab, he has helped scientists, educators, and organizations shape complex ideas into stories that feel clear, human, and worth remembering. That same attention to meaning and craft carries into the stories he writes for children.

Michael is the founder of the Almost Supper Time imprint, created to make space for stories that linger. His books invite readers into imaginative worlds where choices matter, courage is tested, and growth is earned. Beneath the adventure runs something quieter, easily missed if you rush, but hard to forget once you notice it. Love carries weight. Sacrifice means something. These truths are never explained or pointed out. They simply belong to the world of the story, ready to be discovered and carried beyond it in their own time.

When he’s not writing, Michael can often be found listening to the adventures of neighborhood kids and paying attention to the small moments that eventually find their way into his stories. He lives in Southern California with his wife, Pam, where neighborhood kids often stop by to share a story, and sometimes leave with a gummy or two.
